Born from a shared interest in Middle Eastern psych music, Habibi mixes cultural flair with pop sounds to create engaging, danceable music.
Not only has Mdou Moctar been heralded far and wide as one of the most exciting musicians in the world right now, but NPR recently called his newest album, Ilana, “the most insane psychedelic guitar album of the 21st century.” That’s pretty high praise coming from a media outlet that knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Don’t know what Saharan psychedelic rock sounds like? Don’t think twice— get to this show.
Combo Chimbita are pretty impossible to stick a label on. They have been called “Afro-Colombian” but that can’t prepare you for all the sounds in their arsenal. Starting with roots in both traditional and contemporary Latin American music, the band pulls in funk, electro, dub, psychedelic, and punk influences for an otherworldly groove that will catapult you into the outer reaches of the cosmos. It might be hard to put into words, but your body will know what to do.
