About Remembering Larry Garland: A Celebration of His Life and Music
Nearly 40 years ago, pianist and band leader Larry Garland launched The Press Room’s Tuesday Night Jazz Jam and presided over it every week until just a few years ago, when his health began to fail. On Tuesday, April 7, friends, fans, and fellow musicians will gather at The Larry Garland Jazz Jam to celebrate the life and music of this most creative and influential artist, who passed away on February 12.
Appropriately, the event will be a jazz jam, featuring the host group that Larry once led, River City Jazz: Woody Allen, guitar; Jeff Auger, piano; Jim Lyden, bass; and Gary Gemmiti, drums—and, needless to say, lots of sit-ins are expected. The evening will also offer opportunities for guests to share their memories and anecdotes about Larry.
